Pedro created a large body of work with white ochre on canvas being a feature. The exhibition also featured works on bark and ironwood carvings. Pedro talks about his colours and how important they are to Tiwi art and to him personally.
“The white backgrounds of my recent paintings for my exhibition, is really strong, but the whites are different which you can see from a distance. The white background is really white on one painting and on another painting it has white but also a bit of pink. Collecting the ochre behind my house near the beach, the white ochre we collect it down the bottom surface and the other white which has a bit of pink is on the top. So when you mix the white and the other white which has a bit of pink together you can see there’s definitely different whites. This is the earth.”
